Everything parents want to know before letting their kids hit the trail.
Yes. Every story prompt we send to the AI explicitly instructs it to generate age-appropriate, positive, and educational content matched to the selected grade level. Stories are designed to be encouraging and fun — no violence, mature themes, or inappropriate content.
That said, AI systems are imperfect. If you ever encounter a story that doesn't feel right, please email us at support@pagetrailapp.com and we'll investigate immediately.
Only if you include it in the story customization fields. When your child types "Luna" as their character name, that word is included in the story prompt. However, the Explorer name (e.g., "Emma") used for the child's profile is stored only on the device and is never sent to any server.
We recommend using character names (for the story) rather than your child's real name, though either is fine — no personal data is linked to a user account because no account exists.
We've built multiple safeguards into our prompts to prevent inappropriate content, and we use a reputable AI provider (Groq) with strong content policies. In our testing, we have not encountered inappropriate output.
If something unexpected does appear, please report it to support@pagetrailapp.com. We take these reports seriously and use them to improve our prompts.
Both. Stories are calibrated to grade-level vocabulary and sentence complexity, so they build reading skills naturally. The built-in vocabulary lookup lets kids tap any word to see its definition — turning every story into a subtle vocabulary lesson.
Think of it as a bridge: it makes reading enjoyable enough that kids do it voluntarily, which is the biggest driver of reading improvement.
Yes. Page Trail is designed with children's privacy as a priority. We do not collect personal information from children, do not require account creation, and do not serve behavioral advertising. All profile data (Explorer name, Trail Log) is stored locally on the device only.
See our full Privacy Policy for details.
No. Page Trail requires zero accounts, zero logins, and zero email addresses from children. You open the app, create an Explorer (a local profile), and start reading. Everything is stored on-device.
No. The Trail Log (stories read, words learned, time spent) is stored only on your child's device. We never see it, transmit it, or share it. It's your child's private reading journal.
Pick your child's current grade in school. The AI adjusts vocabulary complexity, sentence length, and story length accordingly. You can always switch — if a story feels too easy or too hard, just change the grade trail and generate a new one.
Some kids prefer reading one grade above to be challenged, and some like reading below grade level just for fun. There's no wrong answer.
Quick Story — pick your grade, tap Hit the Trail!, get a fully randomized story. Great for spontaneous reading or when kids can't decide.
My Story — customize the main character's name, their favorite animal, where the story takes place, and the kind of story (funny, brave adventure, magical, silly, or surprise me). Takes 30 extra seconds and produces a much more personal result.
Almost impossible. The AI generates stories fresh every time, and we add unique randomization hints to each request to prevent repetition. We also store the titles of recently generated stories to avoid duplicates. Your child could generate stories every day for years without repeating.
While reading a story, your child can tap and hold any word. A card appears showing the word's definition and a list of synonyms. They can dismiss it and keep reading. The word is saved to their Trail Log under "Words Learned" so they can look back at every word they've discovered.
This happens naturally during reading — no separate vocab mode, no quizzes, no flashcards.
The Trail Log is your child's personal reading record. It shows:
• Total trails (stories) completed
• Total words read across all stories
• Estimated reading time
• Their favorite grade trail
• Every word they looked up while reading
• Their recent story history with titles and dates
It's designed to give kids a sense of progress and accomplishment — seeing their word count and trail count grow is motivating.
Every new install gets 3 free story generations (trails). No credit card, no sign-up required. All features are available during the free tier — grade selection, story customization, vocabulary lookup, and the Trail Log.
After 3 trails, a subscription is required to generate more stories.
$0.99/month for unlimited story generations. That's less than one app purchase, one coffee, or one pack of gum per month — for as many stories as your child wants to read, every day.
The subscription covers all grade levels, all story styles, all Explorer types, vocabulary lookup, and the full Trail Log.
Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple. To cancel: go to Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad, find Page Trail, and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll retain access until the end of the current billing period.
We don't make it hard to cancel — ever.
Yes. One subscription covers all Explorer profiles on a single device. You can create separate Explorer profiles for each child on the same device, and all of them can generate unlimited stories under one $0.99/month subscription.
