Page Trail is designed for children and families. We take privacy seriously — especially for young users. We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the app and do not sell personal information to anyone.
1. Who We Are
Page Trail ("we," "us," or "our") is an AI-powered reading story app for children Kindergarten through 12th grade, available on the Apple App Store. Our website is pagetrailapp.com and you can reach us at support@pagetrailapp.com.
2. Information We Collect
Page Trail is designed to require no account creation. We collect very limited information:
- Explorer name and preferences — stored locally on your device only. We never transmit your child's name or Explorer profile to our servers.
- Subscription status — managed by Apple In-App Purchase and RevenueCat. We receive only an anonymized subscriber ID, not your Apple ID or payment details.
- Story generation requests — when you generate a story, a prompt is sent to our AI provider (Groq) to generate the story text. This prompt includes the selected grade level and story style, but not your child's name unless you include it in the customization fields.
- App usage analytics — we may collect anonymized, aggregated usage data (e.g., which grade levels are most popular) to improve the app. This data cannot identify individual users.
- Waitlist email — if you submit your email on our website to join the waitlist, we store that email to notify you of our launch. We do not share it.
3. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Page Trail is intended for use by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
- No account, login, or personal profile is required to use the app.
- Explorer profiles (name, avatar) are stored only on the device and are never transmitted to us.
- We do not serve behavioral advertising to any users.
- Parents may contact us at support@pagetrailapp.com to request deletion of any data associated with their child.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate Page Trail:
- Groq — AI story generation. Story prompts are sent to Groq's servers to generate text. Groq's privacy policy applies to this data. We do not include identifiable information in prompts.
- RevenueCat — subscription management. RevenueCat processes subscription status and manages entitlements. No payment information passes through RevenueCat — payments are handled entirely by Apple.
- Apple In-App Purchase — all payments and billing are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.
5. Data Storage and Security
Explorer profiles, Trail Logs, and reading history are stored locally on your device using iOS standard storage (UserDefaults). This data does not leave your device. We use industry-standard security practices for any data that does pass through our systems.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Opt out of any marketing communications

7. Data Retention
Waitlist emails are retained until you request removal or until the app launches. App usage data is anonymized and retained for up to 12 months. Local device data is retained until you delete the app.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. We will notify waitlist subscribers of material changes via email, and update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
